The right to education is a fundamental right of the child, guaranteed and protected by numerous international instruments. It received broad legal protection through various general international conventions, culminating in the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1989, which strengthened this right and imposed obligations on States Parties to respect it. In line with international protection requirements, the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda reframed the right to education within a broader and more comprehensive approach based on quality and inclusive education for all. This paper examines its transformation from the classical legal perspective to sustainable development.
