By tracing the historical evolution of the nuclear arms control system and interpreting its changes within the framework of the shift from a bipolar to a multipolar international system, this study seeks to analyze the nuclear arms control crisis in light of current international tensions. The study also aims to investigate how the efficacy of the nuclear arms control system is affected by regional crises like the Iranian nuclear program, North Korea, as well as the competition between the major powers, especially the United States, Russia and China. The analysis comes to the conclusion that the current crisis in the nuclear weapons control system is a reflection of a deeper structural change in the structure of the international system rather than being restricted to the breakdown of specific agreements or the failure of negotiations. The conventional legal and institutional frameworks for arms control have been undermined by the deterioration of confidence between major powers, the intensification of geopolitical conflicts, and the growing dependence on nuclear deterrent. The study also shows that the nuclear arms control environment has become more complex due to the emergence of new nuclear actors and the interaction between regional dynamics and global strategic competition.
