Abstract: Recent archaeological discoveries at Hamra Dom (Qena, El-Tariff Mountain) reveal evidence of crocodile worship like that known from Kom Ombo in Upper Egypt and the Fayum region. This study seeks to address several key questions regarding these findings: where were these crocodiles bred? Were they raised as part of a local crocodile cult in a systematic manner, or did they serve another purpose? Were they votive offerings, or did their burial have a different significance? The article also examines the archaeological evidence for the presence of crocodiles in an otherwise dry environment, explores the reasons for their mummification, and outlines the methods used in the mummification process. Finally, it compares the recently discovered crocodile cache at Hamra Dom with the extensive collections of crocodile mummies found in other cemeteries throughout the Fayum and Kom Ombo regions.
