Abstract: This theoretical study examines the role of social media platforms, particularly Facebook, in shaping the destination image of Bouira’s internal tourism assets and enhancing visit intention within the context of domestic tourism. The article adopts a sociological perspective grounded in the concepts of cognitive, affective, and conative destination image, the Theory of Planned Behavior, and tourism behavior models, while drawing on Arabic, English, and French literature on social media and digital tourism. The theoretical findings suggest that Facebook operates as a socio-digital space that produces meanings and social representations of destinations, where digital interactions (likes, comments, shares, following) contribute to the construction of a positive destination image and strengthen visit intention, especially for domestic tourism. The study also indicates that user-generated visual content, online recommendations, and virtual tourism communities represent key mechanisms for enhancing the symbolic value of Bouira’s tourism resources and stimulating domestic tourism demand in Algeria, highlighting the need for more professional and coordinated strategies by local tourism stakeholders and page administrators to harness Facebook more effectively for internal tourism promotion.
