Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of psychosocial factors on juvenile delinquent behavior in Algeria, examining both the socio-psychological determinants of its emergence and the role of rehabilitation institutions in its modification. Employing a qualitative methodology and a case study approach, the research analyzes the life history of a specific juvenile delinquent in Algiers. The findings indicate that delinquent behavior is not an isolated individual act, but rather a cumulative outcome of structural dysfunctions. The most prominent of these are family disintegration, marital conflicts, emotional neglect, and negative comparisons, which collectively foster an environment conducive to deviance. Furthermore, the study highlights the limited efficacy of rehabilitation centers in addressing delinquent behavior when the underlying familial and social roots of the problem remain unaddressed, and a post-release supportive environment does not support their interventions. Consequently, the paper concludes by emphasizing the necessity of adopting an integrated approach that involves the family, school, and community within comprehensive prevention and reintegration strategies.
