Abstract

This study aims to analyze the image of the revolutionary woman in the Algerian cinema through a semiological approach applied to selected scenes from the film titled "The Battle of Algiers", directed by Gillo Pontecorvo. This analysis was carried out through the selection of six (6) pivotal scenes from film, treated through a semiological approaches based on the frameworks analyses of Roland Barthes and Christian Metz. The scenes were subject a two-tiered decoding: denotative (literal) and connotative (symbolic/implied) levels of meaning. Through this methodology, several key findings emerged: - The woman appears in diverse symbolic roles: as a strategy of camouflage, as a mediator in negotiations... - The Algerian revolutionary woman in the film emerges as a symbol of memory and identity-an extension of the cultural heritage of the Casbah. - The woman’s presence in the film marks a break with dominant stereotypes, a rupture expressed through various semantic levels.
