Abstract: This research aims to study the impact of communication through virtual reality (VR) and the metaverse as a qualitative shift in individual interactions and the formation of digital communities. The study focuses on exploring the opportunities provided by the metaverse, a network of interconnected virtual worlds supported by augmented virtual reality and artificial intelligence technologies, which contributes to creating immersive digital communities that enhance social interaction and transcend geographical barriers. A literature review methodology was adopted using the PRISMA system to analyze studies published between 2020 and 2025. The results showed that these environments allow users to express themselves through avatars and participate in shared experiences. However, challenges were identified, including social isolation, the deterioration of social skills in the real world, and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
