This paper examines the role of smart cities and remote work in reducing carbon footprints and promoting sustainable urban development. As climate change and urban pollution become critical issues, adopting digital technologies and flexible work arrangements can improve human well-being while lowering environmental impact. Globally, nations show different levels of progress, with some leading in smart-city implementation and green digital solutions, while others face challenges due to limited resources or weak infrastructure. In Algeria, efforts are underway to modernize public services, develop intelligent urban systems, and promote remote work. Although the country lags behind global and some African peers, its ambitions include building smarter cities, improving digital infrastructure, and fostering sustainable practices.
