Abstract: The advancement of technology and the parallel evolution in the means and methods of committing crimes have prompted the Algerian legislator—through efforts to keep pace with these developments in order to prevent and combat crime in its various forms—to intervene on numerous occasions by amending existing legal provisions or introducing new legal texts that are suitable and capable of addressing crimes that pose a threat to society and individuals. Among the newly introduced texts is Law 23/04, which pertains to the prevention and combat of human trafficking, particularly in the investigation and inquiry phase, where the legislator granted certain powers and authorities to the judicial police despite the potential violations and infringements on rights and freedoms, due to the seriousness of this type of crime.
