The capital of the Ottoman state, Istanbul, has always captured the eyes of European travelers, men and women, because of its characteristics and advantages - perhaps the most important of which is that it combines the civilization of the East and the West - so it became a destination for trips, especially in the 18th century, and despite the different motives and goals of travelers, they met on the love of the East and the desire to discover it. Lady Mary Wortley Montagu is one of the most famous English travelers who visited Istanbul and had a passion for it. This is what she expressed in her letters, which included interesting details about the Society of Istanbul with a different view from that of other writers who recounted their experiences in the Ottoman world with a predominantly biased and negative view.
