Through this research paper, we attempt to shed light on the role of the agricultural sector in supporting the national economy in Algeria. Based on the theoretical framework, the agricultural sector plays a role as an intermediary tool for many economic sectors, and in achieving food security. The results of the econometric study using the vector error correction model indicate a positive relationship in the short run between agricultural exports and economic growth, and a negative relationship in the long run. Furthermore, there is a negative relationship in both the short and long runs between agricultural imports and economic growth in Algeria during the study period (1970-2022). The results are consistent with the reality of the Algerian economy, which relies on rentier revenues without paying attention to other sectors.
