Adopting a hybrid analytical approach that combines discourse analysis with direct citation from original sources, the research investigates the newspaper’s representations uprising—focusing on language, dominant terminology, and underlying political contexts. The study traces the evolution of the newspaper’s reports between November 2 and 7, 1954, highlighting a gradual shift from ambiguous descriptions to an increasing alignment with the French colonial narrative. The events were framed as “terrorist” attacks, and the perpetrators were labeled as rebels and outlaw gangs. The newspaper also explored potential causes for the uprising, linking them to internal divisions within the Algerian nationalist movement and regional reactions to the Tunisian experience. The analysis then turns to the explanatory-accusatory discourse, wherein external actors—Tunisia, Egypt, the Soviet Union, and even France itself—were implicated in fueling the rebellion, reflecting the entanglement of media, political propaganda, and Cold War dynamics.
