Abstract: This study focuses on the concept of the militarization of artificial intelligence, which refers to the integration of intelligent technologies into the military domain and the production of autonomous weapons. It seeks to analyze this concept and link it to the global arms race, which has undergone significant transformations due to this militarization, shifting towards a smart arms race among major powers competing to invest in the development of AI-powered weapons, thereby creating a security dilemma. The study concludes that the militarization of artificial intelligence has contributed to reshaping strategic balances and the emergence of new alliances, in addition to increasing the risk of military escalation, as traditional wars have evolved into smart wars. This necessitates an urgent international response to regulate the use of these technologies and mitigate their risks to global security and peace.
Keywords: Artificial Intelligence; Militarization; Arms Race; Autonomous Weapons; Geopolitical Balances.
