Strengthening Efl Learners’ Patriotic Values Through History Education

Abstract

Building a nation and work for its prosperity and development has never been an easy process. It requires establishing national values and principles, bonding the country together, and compromising to hold citizens connected to the common good and best interests of the whole country. Undoubtedly, loving the country is one of the solid values upon which countries rest and get their strength. Therefore, instilling patriotism values among students, who will be future citizens, is paramount. The present paper aims to shed light on strengthening EFL learners’ patriotic sense through history education. To achieve so, a mixed method approach was adopted to analyze data gathered from interviewing a sample of five civilization teachers from ENSB English Department and a questionnaire distributed to 100 ENSB EFL students. The findings showed the importance of history education in promoting and strengthening patriotic values among EFL students.
