Dar al-Sultan in Al-Abbad Al-Alawi is a rare example of a temporary royal residence in the central Maghreb (modern-day Algeria). In this article, we explored the architectural and artistic aspects of the Dar (house), which has preserved the typical features of Islamic architecture, particularly the use of the open courtyard in its design. We highlighted the key architectural and artistic characteristics, including the variety of plaster and mosaic decorations, which demonstrate the skill of Islamic artisans in depicting and diversifying decorative themes, ranging from vegetal to geometric and calligraphic motifs.
