The Use Of The Mother Tongue In Teaching French As A Foreign Language

Abstract
This research examines the question of the integration of the mother tongue into foreign language teaching, looking in particular at its impact on the learning of French as a foreign language, with a specific focus on oral interference among pupils in the fifth year of primary school. Our study explores both the benefits and the constraints of using the mother tongue in the teaching and learning of French. Teachers face a number of challenges when they seek to reinforce the understanding and mastery of French through the use of the mother tongue. The latter influences not only the dynamics of foreign language learning, but also teaching methods, thus playing a key mediating role in language acquisition processes.
