ABSTRACT Children's literature is undergoing profound transformations with the rapid spread of digital media and interactive platforms. Algerian children are no longer passive recipients of literary texts, but rather active participants in the production of meaning across diverse digital environments. This field study aims to analyze the position of children's literature in the digital space, examining its functions of entertainment and upbringing, in light of the new communication uses imposed by smart applications, audiovisual platforms, and interactive e-books. The study employs a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing questionnaires and interviews with a sample of children, their parents, and primary school teachers in Algeria. The goal is to identify usage patterns, motivations for receiving information, and the extent to which digital content influences the formation of values and behaviors. It also seeks to explore the nature of digital literary content and its balance between entertainment and education, given the dominance of images, movement, and visual effects. The study posits that new technologies have reshaped the relationship between children and literary texts, shifting from linear reading to multimedia interaction, thus enhancing engagement and enjoyment. However, this shift may also pose challenges related to the depth of comprehension and internalization of values. Preliminary findings also indicate that the intensive use of digital platforms directs children's attention toward fast-paced content and high visual tempo, at the expense of traditional reflective reading. The study concludes that there is a need to rethink the production of digital children's literature that combines artistic quality with educational function, while strengthening the role of families and educational institutions in guiding its use. This will ensure a balance between entertainment and socialization in the contemporary digital environment.
