This article examines the widespread integration of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education, balancing its immense potential with critical threats to academic integrity. While AI legitimately assists in brainstorming, literature reviews, language editing, and data analysis , unregulated use triggers risks like algorithmic hallucinations (counterfeit references), smart plagiarism, and a decline in human critical thinking. To address these ethical and legal dilemmas, including widening intellectual property gaps and data privacy concerns , the study outlines a forward-looking governance framework. This approach relies on implementing specific academic honor charters, strict disclosure mechanisms, and pedagogical updates to preserve authentic human scholarly values.
