Considerable scholarly attention has been devoted to Students’ perception of their teachers distance or approachability and the eventual role teacher gender may play in shaping student participation. The aim of the present study is to explore the correlation between teacher gender and student participation and attitudes in oral expression classes among 168 first-year EFL students at Batna 2 University. A mixed method design was used to collect quantitative and qualitative data paring systematic classroom observation using a checklist and questionnaires. The analysis indicates that correlations were found between teacher gender and both participation (r = .16-.29, p < .001) and attitudes (r = .36, p < .001). The findings reveal that teacher gender significantly influences student engagement in oral expression, emphasizing the importance of gender dynamics in EFL education.
