This article aims to define the features of the Algerian political system under the 2020 Constitution, which was recently amended in 2026. It does so by examining the nature of this system, focusing on the key characteristics enshrined by the constitutional framers within the framework of the political reforms it encompassed. The article specifically highlights the positions of both the executive and legislative branches. The study concludes that the Constitution maintains the semi-presidential character of the Algerian political system, with the continued pivotal role of the President of the Republic, while simultaneously emphasizing constitutional mechanisms designed to strengthen parliamentary oversight. The article also concludes that these reforms represent a positive step towards consolidating the rule of law; however, their effectiveness remains contingent upon the extent to which constitutional provisions are respected and implemented in actual political practice.
