Abstract: Algeria is among the countries that have witnessed developments in the field of oversight of the constitutionality of laws. The 2020 constitutional amendment included the creation of a constitutional institution to replace the Constitutional Council. This institution, called the Constitutional Court, is tasked with ensuring respect for the constitution, a fundamental task it shares with the Constitutional Council. However, there are fundamental differences between the two institutions in terms of formal and substantive provisions, which can be used to determine the legal nature of the Constitutional Court.
