The Semantic Implications Of Educational Images And Their Impact On The Development Of Linguistic Competence In Students: A Case Study Of The Arabic Language Textbook For Second Grade Primary Education

Abstract
This study aims to highlight the semantic role of educational images as a means that transcends the explanatory function to become a carrier of linguistic and cultural meanings that contribute to the development of linguistic competence in primary school learners. The Arabic language textbook for second-grade primary education was used as a practical model to analyse the meanings conveyed by images in the context of lesson construction and to monitor their contribution to vocabulary development and the ability to express and understand. This research paper also emphasises the role of educational images in conveying meaning through their visual and suggestive structures, which have a variety of psychological and educational implications. This makes them an effective semantic medium that contributes to the development of linguistic thinking in young learners. In conclusion, we argue that images are a fundamental element of the educational process as they help embed meaning and stimulate linguistic interaction. Therefore, their use within textbooks must be carefully considered.
