Abstract: This study examines the application of Gile’s Effort Model to understand and mitigate stress factors affecting conference interpreters in Algeria. Using a mixed-methods approach involving 37 professional interpreters, the study investigates the impact of AI-enhanced preparation on interpreter performance and stress levels. The research was conducted over an 18-month period (March 2024 to August 2025) by the author in collaboration with Algerian professional interpreters, during a series of 12 conferences organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Wakf, and the Ministry of Energy of Algeria. Prior to data collection, interpreters received structured training in AI tool utilization, delivered by the author in February 2024. The results indicate that AI-assisted preparation achieved an average accuracy rate of 80% in predicting actual speech content in 62% of the conferences. Furthermore, post-conference audience evaluations revealed significantly higher satisfaction levels for interpreters who used AI-based preparation compared to those relying on traditional preparation methods.
