This research aims at offering a critical reading of the human–algorithm relationship, using Algerian society as a case study, with a focus on the erosion of symbolic agency under the pressure of artificial intelligence. Using the critical sociological method, the study applies a qualitative analysis of digital content on TikTok, a platform that embodies algorithmic behavior in everyday life. The tool that was used is symbolic discourse analysis, applied to a purposive sample of 100 highly engaging digital posts created by young influencers in 2024. The following results were obtained: a noticeable decline in deep identity representation; the dominance of self-performance strategies tailored to the algorithm; the commodification of symbolic presence; and the weakening of the public sphere in favor of algorithmic repetition. The study recommends the development of a critical Arab digital sociology capable of addressing such transformations and re-centering the human subject.
