This article examines the Dutch experience in promoting sustainable tourism through eco-friendly “green” hotels within an environmental governance framework. It analyzes national policies and institutional incentives that support environmentally conscious practices in the hospitality sector- such as energy efficiency, waste recycling, and water conservation. The article highlights how these practices align with green economy objectives. The findings indicate that the success of green hotels in the Netherlands stems from a combination of effective environmental governance, state support, consumer awareness, and integration of green standards into tourism strategies. Furthermore, the article underscores the positive role of these hotels in reducing the environmental impact of the tourism sector, creating green job opportunities, and strengthening the Netherlands' position as an influential international actor in environmental policy and sustainable development.
