This article examines the legal status of the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and the Fight against Corruption in Algeria, within the framework of national and international efforts aimed at combating corruption. This authority was established following the 2020 constitutional amendment and was enshrined as an independent constitutional institution, in accordance with Article 204 of the Constitution. Law No. 22-08 confirmed that it enjoys legal personality, as well as financial and administrative autonomy. The article highlights the manifestations of the Authority’s independence, both at the organizational level—through the plurality and diversity of its composition, the determination of the term of office, the protection of its members against arbitrary dismissal, and the multiplicity of bodies authorized to propose appointments—and at the functional level, through the recognition of its financial and administrative autonomy and legal personality. However, this independence remains relative, due to certain constraints, such as the concentration of appointment powers in the hands of the President of the Republic and the obligation to submit an annual report to him. The article also addresses the powers of the High Authority, which include informational, strategic, awareness-raising, and advisory competencies, all aimed at the prevention of and the fight against corruption. Finally, the article concludes by emphasizing the need to review anti-corruption legislation in order to align it with the constitutional amendment and to strengthen the effectiveness of this institution
