:This study examines slavery in Brazil during the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries as one of the fundamental pillars of both the colonial and imperial systems. It analyzes the evolution of enslavement practices, the social and economic conditions of enslaved people, and the individual and collective forms of resistance that contributed to the weakening of the slave system. The study also highlights the gradual paths toward emancipation, particularly the impact of economic, intellectual, and legal transformations in the nineteenth century. It seeks to emphasize the dialectical relationship between slavery and freedom and to understand the specificity of the Brazilian experience in comparison with other slave societies in the Atlantic world.
Keywords:Slavery, Emancipation, Brazil, Atlantic Slavery, Resistance, Manumission, Seventeenth Century, Nineteenth Century.
