This study examines the narrative techniques and characterization in selected children’s stories by Lebanese author Nabiha Muhaidli, emphasizing her human-centric approach. Through close reading, the analysis reveals a deliberate exclusion of plant and animal characters, diverging from traditional children’s literature that often relies on anthropomorphism. Instead, Muhaidli centers human characters, framing their interpersonal relationships, familial bonds, and everyday struggles as primary vehicles for storytelling. Her characterization employs accessible, child-oriented descriptors—such as physical traits, gestures, and emotionally resonant behaviors—to foster relatability and self-identification among young readers. The study contextualizes these choices within broader trends in Arab children’s literature, noting Muhaidli’s alignment with narratives prioritizing cultural authenticity and moral lessons grounded in realism. By avoiding fantastical elements, her work emphasizes social and emotional learning through scenarios mirroring children’s lived experiences. This approach not only enhances psychological immediacy but also reflects pedagogical aims to cultivate empathy and practical understanding of communal values. Findings position Muhaidli’s stories as a distinctive contribution to Arabic children’s fiction, challenging genre conventions while maintaining simplicity and cultural resonance. The research underscores the significance of her stylistic focus on human interactions, suggesting its potential to bridge literary engagement with socioeducational development. This analysis invites further exploration of regional storytelling traditions and their adaptation to modern pedagogical frameworks.
