Authors : Chaibeddra Walid . Sahraoui Djihad .

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the nature of the prevailing discourse in memes within the Algerian digital space and its role in promoting certain forms of digital bullying. We relied on the survey method and content analysis tool, focusing on a sample of meme posts in one of the "Facebook" groups. The analysis categories included the subject, rhetorical nature, intonation, nature of phrases, targeted characters, media used, and language. The results showed that sarcastic discourse is the most common, and that the combination of text and image is the predominant form in meme production, with a clear dominance of Algerian dialect, which effectively conveys sarcastic meanings. It also became clear that public figures and social groups are the main targets of this type of discourse.
