The King's Position In The Structure Of The Moroccan Political System

Abstract
This study investigates the role and position of the Moroccan king within the structure of the country's political system, with a particular focus on the monarchy's influence over the decision-making process. Through a historical and institutional analysis, the research reveals that the Moroccan political model has not fully transitioned from its traditional foundations. The monarchy—rooted in the legacy of the sultanate—continues to occupy a central position, functioning as the primary and most influential actor in political life. Despite successive constitutional reforms and modernization efforts, the king retains broad and decisive powers across the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. Consequently, the Moroccan system exhibits a hybrid nature, blending formal democratic features with deeply entrenched traditional authority.
