This study examines language policies and pedagogies for multilingualism in Algeria in relation to postcolonial legacies, with particular focus on the lasting effects of French, Arabization policy, and emergent English use. Engaging with critical language policy research, education reform activity, and classroom interaction theories, it examines how ubiquitous hierarchies continue to shape pedagogy. The study reveals policy intentions against disputed realities, and decolonial resistance and new directions. Plotting the axes of structure, ideology, and pedagogy, the study sees a potential for reading evolving sociolinguistic circumstances in Algeria and reconceptualizing sustainable, inclusive, and pluralist language education.
