ABSTRACT The goal of augmented translation is not to replace human translators but to enhance their capabilities by providing extensive contextual data. By accessing vast datasets, translators can trace how terms and phrases have been previously rendered in similar thematic contexts, examine the frequency of translations for specific content, and evaluate word usage histories. This level of traceability exceeds human capacity, making it vital to integrate AI tools and collaborate with human expertise. The translator’s role shifts towards that of a gatekeeper, someone who applies filters and edits with discernment, preserving the essence of authorship. Rather than diminishing the translator’s role, augmented translation frees them to focus on more complex, nuanced tasks that showcase their irreplaceable value in the industry.
