This study assesses how Algeria’s 2025 political decision to legalize micro-importation and increase tourism foreign currency allowances translates into economic spillovers on the informal exchange market. Using a systemic time-series design (2001–2025), it treats import operations and foreign reserves as structural proxies for policy easing and liquidity constraint, respectively, and models their impact on the exchange rate premium. Results show that the political decision of import liberalization and tourism currency easing, significantly amplifies informal pressure, while reserve increases offer only transient relief. This asymmetry reveals that politically motivated regulatory easing, when decoupled from monetary backing, risks reinforcing, rather than resolving the dual-market disequilibrium it seeks to fix.
