Slacktivism And The Palestinian Cause: Analyzing Online Solidarity Campaigns

Abstract
Today, digital platforms have become central spaces for expressing solidarity with political causes, especially when it comes to the longest-running liberation struggle of the modern era: the Palestinian cause. This study explores the phenomenon of “slacktivism” a form of digital activism that does not require significant effort and its role in shaping online solidarity campaigns with Palestine. Through the questions posed, the study seeks to reveal the various ways in which individuals interact with the Palestinian cause online through actions such as using hashtags, sharing posts, changing profile pictures, and signing online petitions... All of these actions provide symbolic support, and this paper critically examines their impact, authenticity, and sustainability. The results indicate that slacktivism contributes to increasing global awareness, but often lacks the depth of political engagement necessary to bring about tangible change. This article ultimately raises questions about the effectiveness and ethics of digital solidarity, especially when activism becomes more about performance than participation. أصبحت المنصات الرقمية اليوم مساحات مركزية للتعبير عن التضامن مع القضايا السياسية، لا سيما عندما يتعلق الأمر بأطول نضال تحرري في العصر الحديث وهو القضية الفلسطينية. تستكشف هذه الدراسة ظاهرة ”السلبية النشطة“ أو "النشاط السالب" (slacktivism)، وهي شكل من أشكال النشاط الرقمي لا يتطلب جهدًا كبيرًا، ودورها في تشكيل حملات التضامن مع فلسطين على الإنترنت. من خلال الأسئلة المطروحة، تسعى الدراسة إلى الكشف عن الطرق المختلفة التي يتفاعل بها الأفراد مع القضية الفلسطينية عبر الإنترنت من خلال إجراءات مثل استخدام الهاشتاغات ومشاركة المنشورات وتغيير صور الملف الشخصي والتوقيع على العرائض عبر الإنترنت... توفر جميع هذه الإجراءات دعماً رمزياً، وتبحث هذه الورقة بشكل نقدي تأثيرها وأصالتها واستدامتها. تشير النتائج إلى أن النشاط الافتراضي يساهم في زيادة الوعي العالمي، ولكنه غالبًا ما يفتقر إلى عمق المشاركة السياسية اللازمة لإحداث تغيير ملموس. يطرح هذا المقال في النهاية أسئلة حول فعالية وأخلاقيات التضامن الرقمي، خاصة عندما يصبح النشاط أكثر ارتباطًا بالأداء منه بالمشاركة.
