This research paper aims to measure and analyze the impact of selected macroeconomic variables namely (inflation, proll, the exchange rate, and the money supply) on the velocity of money in Algeria during the period (1990–2023). To achieve this objective, the study investigates the existence of a cointegration relationship between the explanatory variables and the velocity of money using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach. The findings reveal a strong and significant positive relationship between the macroeconomic variables and the velocity of money. Moreover, the results indicate the presence of a long-run equilibrium relationship among the aforementioned variables. The study also shows that when a shock of one unit occurs in inflation, proll, the exchange rate, or the money supply, its impact on the velocity of money takes approximately ten (10) months to return to its equilibrium and natural state.
