This study examines the protection of human rights within the framework of temporary international criminal justice, focusing on the experience of ad hoc tribunals established in response to serious violations of international humanitarian law. It highlights the legal foundations, jurisdictional scope, and procedural guarantees of these courts, particularly the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. By analyzing their contributions to criminal accountability, the research underscores how these tribunals advanced the principles of justice, deterrence, and the enforcement of international human rights norms. Despite criticism regarding selectivity, political influence, and dependence on state cooperation, the tribunals played a decisive role in consolidating the notion of individual criminal responsibility for grave crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes
