Riassunto L'approccio sociolinguistico diventa imprescindibile nello studio delle modalità del registro colloquiale. Permette di inquadrare con rigore tali modalità nell'insieme delle varietà linguistiche di una lingua, e offre un quadro teorico utile e metodi adeguati per la raccolta e l'analisi della lingua corrente. L'interesse per il registro colloquiale, come modalità orale informale, nasce di fatto dalla sociolinguistica, ed è nel suo ambito che ha ricevuto finora i trattamenti più dettagliati. Il presente articolo si consacra all'indagine del registro colloquiale nel proprio contesto socioculturale in Italia. Si fornisce una descrizione accurata e approfondita della condizione sociolinguistica dell’Italia, esaminando i precedenti storici e l'attuale panorama sociolinguistico. Tale approccio metodologico ha consentito di condurre l'analisi della situazione sociolinguistica in questo paese, delineare il profilo sociolinguistico del registro colloquiale nella suddetta nazione e identificare la peculiarità propria del registro colloquiale. Abstract The sociolinguistic approach becomes essential in the study of colloquial register patterns. It allows for the rigorous positioning of such patterns within the entirety of linguistic varieties of a language, and offers a useful theoretical framework and adequate methods for the collection and analysis of current language. Interest in colloquial register, as an informal oral mode, actually originates from sociolinguistics, and it is within this field that it has received the most detailed treatment thus far. This article is devoted to the investigation of colloquial register within its sociocultural context in Italy. It provides an accurate and in-depth description of the sociolinguistic condition of Italy, examining historical precedents and the current sociolinguistic landscape. This methodological approach has allowed for conducting an analysis of the sociolinguistic situation in this country, outlining the sociolinguistic profile of colloquial register in the aforementioned nation, and identifying the distinctive characteristics peculiar to colloquial register.
