This paper investigates the relationship between health expenditures, education, and life expectancy in Algeria over the period 1990–2023 using a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Contrary to theoretical expectations, the findings reveal a paradox: both education and health expenditures are negatively associated with longevity. In the short run, only education contributes to correcting disequilibria, while health expenditures primarily respond to changes in life expectancy. These results highlight the importance of enhancing the quality and efficiency of education and health policies in order to foster longevity and promote sustainable human development.
