Abstract: This study aims to examine the levels of both emotional intelligence and burnout among clinical psychologists working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, given the high professional and emotional demands inherent in this field. The research further seeks to determine the nature of the relationship between these two variables and to explore differences according to gender and years of professional experience. To this end, the study employed a descriptive-correlational methodology, utilizing a personal data questionnaire, the Mayer–Salovey Emotional Intelligence Scale, and the Maslach–Jackson Burnout Inventory, both adapted to the Algerian context. The purposive sample consisted of 100 psychologists (27 males and 73 females), aged between 25 and 54 years, with varying levels of professional experience, all of whom were either employed in or undergoing training at the Child Psychiatry Department of Drid Hussein Hospital in Algiers. The findings revealed that participants exhibited a moderate level of emotional intelligence and a high level of burnout. Moreover, a strong and statistically significant negative correlation was observed between the two variables. Gender-based analysis indicated that female participants outperformed their male counterparts in emotional intelligence, while no significant differences emerged in levels of burnout. Regarding professional experience, psychologists with fewer than five years of practice demonstrated higher emotional intelligence, whereas those with longer experience reported greater levels of burnout.
