How Onaizah Colleges Faculty Perceive The Use Of Chatgpt By Their Students?

Authors : Ahmed Medjedel .

Abstract

Abstract The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT into educational settings has sparked significant discussions about their impact on teaching and learning. This study explores faculty perceptions at Onaizah Colleges regarding the use of ChatGPT by students, focusing on perceived benefits, challenges, and ethical implications. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys and semi-structured interviews with faculty members across diverse academic disciplines. Findings indicate that while faculty recognize ChatGPT's potential to enhance student learning by improving access to resources and fostering creativity (Holmes & Gee, 2020), concerns about academic integrity, over-reliance on AI, and the accuracy of AI-generated content remain prevalent (Selwyn, 2020). Ethical considerations, such as the risk of plagiarism and inequities in access to AI tools (Siau & Wang, 2020; Alghamdi & Li, 2022), were highlighted as critical issues requiring institutional attention. The study also identifies variations in perceptions based on discipline, teaching experience, and familiarity with AI technologies (Zhang et al., 2023). The research concludes with actionable recommendations, including the development of clear institutional policies, faculty training programs, and curriculum adjustments to promote responsible AI integration. By addressing these insights, Onaizah Colleges can navigate the challenges and opportunities of AI in education, fostering an ethical and innovative learning environment.
