The study aimed to describe the levels of physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness in school-aged children (9-10 years) at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, in addition to investigating the degree of association between the level of physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness. In this study, we used a cross-sectional design. A total of 110 children at risk for type 2 diabetes met the criteria for participation in the assessment process. To determine overweight and obesity among the sample members, we relied on the body mass index (BMI). To determine the level of physical activity among the children under study, we used the PDPAR physical activity scale from ACTIVGRAM. To assess cardiorespiratory fitness, we relied on the PACER test protocol from FITNESSGRAM. The study results indicated that a decrease in cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with a lower level of daily physical activity in children at risk of type 2 diabetes. A decrease in the rate of daily physical activity may lead to poor levels of cardiorespiratory fitness and thus an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes in students aged 9-10 years.
