Abstract

Every year, there are almost 350 active athletics clubs, associations and structures in Algeria, practicing middle-distance running. We describe Algerian children by their very nature as middle-distance runners. Our current focus is on the 11, 12 and 13 age groups, characterized by a high proportion of runners interested in the remarkable performances recorded, i.e. an Algerian record every two years (FAA, 2020). Our sample consisted of 198 young athletes, aged 12.80. We carried out anthropometric investigations to determine the main morphological characteristics to be retained for detection and selection. To do this, we used multifactorial analysis. This must attract the attention of decision-makers and implement and exploitation of the scientific aspect of sports detection, as an essential factor of sporting excellence that accompanies the young sports talent, within a multi-annual model of systematic sports training and validated by general and specific methodological rules (Vladimir, L et al, 2014). Young people in this age group undergo well-defined training loads, either through a framework of games and in most cases through intensive training loads; to participate in local and national competitions. We know that around the age of 12 and 13, the training regime can reach 20 hours per week for periods ranging from 6 to 11 months per year (Platonov 1984). We therefore set ourselves the task of determining the detection for a given specialty, considering the morphological and functional aspects of young populations.
