The Role Of The Tourism Sector On Economic Growth In Algeria: An Analytical And Econometric Study For The Period 2000-2024

Abstract

Tourism plays a significant role in the economies of numerous countries around the world, particularly those with strong foundations for success, whether stemming from natural or human resources. Algeria, for instance, possesses these essential elements but has not maximized their potential effectively. Additionally, several obstacles have hindered the development of this vital sector. A study utilizing the VAR model during the period 2000–2024 revealed that while both tourism revenue and investment have a positive impact on economic growth, their influence remains minimal. This finding highlights the limited contribution of the tourism sector to Algeria's overall economic growth.
