Abstract

This research explores the connectionbetweenhealthcarespending and Algeria’seconomicgrowth over the periodfrom 1990 to 2023 using NARDL. The results reveal a long-run equilibrium with an asymmetric effect : reducing health expenditure significantly harms growth, while increasing it has an insignificant effect. the number of physicians positively impacts growth, whereas higher infant mortality rates and population growth have negative effects. Surprisingly, life expectancy shows a negative long-term impact. The findings emphasize that increasing health expenditure alone is insufficient ; efficiency and targeted investments in human capital are crucial for maximizing economic benefits and fostering sustainable growth.
