Résumé

Sickle cell disease is a genetic hemoglobinopathy characterized by a pathological hemoglobin Hb S responsible for a process of polymerization under conditions of deoxygenation. It is manifested by anemic episodes, vaso-occlusive crises, severe infectious syndromes and multiple functional degenerations. Surgery exposes these patients to a relatively higher risk of perioperative mortality. The cardiac surgery is particularly high-risk, as extracorporeal circulation is a major factor in falciformation. Perioperative management requires multidisciplinary consultation and the development of transfusion or exchange transfusion protocols to reduce the concentration of Hemoglobin S concentration below the threshold.
