Ecological Entropy In Samuel Beckett’s Nohow On: An ‘ecosophical’ Interpretation

Abstract
Abstract Inspired by Felix Guttari’s ‘ecosophical’ theory of the three ecologies (environment, society, and subjectivity), this paper is an ecocritical reading of Beckett’s collection of three prose pieces entitled Nohow On (1989). Nature, like Beckett’s characters in this collection, is mostly anonymous; it is equally silenced and hardly depictable especially in the first piece entitled Company and the last one entitled Worstward Ho. The story in the middle is entitled Ill Seen Ill Said where the pronouncement that there’s “No more sky or earth” is made; it is a pure parody of nature through the decadent and disintegrating life of an unnamed old woman. Résumé Les œuvres de Beckett sont souvent classifiées en termes de l’antilittéraire vu leur nature difficile et son style ambiguë et absurde. Cet article utilise une approche éco critique et environnementale en appliquant la nouvelle ontologie de l’écosophie notamment celle développée par Félix Guttari pour interpréter le silence parmi les mots de Beckett et l’absence de la nature vivante dans son œuvre Nohow On. Les trois écologies de Guttari sont l’environnement, la société, et la subjectivité. L’être humain devient un acteur de destruction et de personnification envers son entourage naturel. ملخص غالبا ما يتم اقصاء كتابات ساموئيل بيكات من الدراسات النقدية البيئية ودلك لصعوبتها البالغة من حيث الأسلوب والمضمون. تقوم هده الورقة البحثية بتطبيق نظرية الإيكولوجيات الثلاث لفيليكس قوتاري على الرواية الثلاثية نوهاو اون (1989) والتي بدورها تعطي صورة تخويفية عن مصير الفرد وسط الازمات المناخية المتأزمة والناتجة بدرجة أولى من التصرفات الفردية الغير واعية.
