Research issues on the geopolitics of sea lanes and ports are among the most important issues in international affairs, as they present several variables due to the international competition of major powers over them, especially since the strategic importance of straits and sea lanes represents one of the geopolitical dimensions influencing the paths of building international relations, as they represent elements of geopolitics and have a direct impact on the economic, security and military aspects associated with the competing international powers. This paper will examine the variables explaining the geopolitical importance of the strategic Strait of Malacca, as it is characterized by international competition between China and the United States of America, and is considered the most important transit point for trade and maritime navigation between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and also constitutes a vital corridor for global trade (oil and gas), and the security of maritime sovereignty.
