Proverbs Significance And Use Within The Speech Community Of Tlemcen

Abstract

Proverbs are inherited short sayings that reflect the wisdom and experience of one's ancestors. The present paper adopts a sociolinguistic approach to the study of proverbs in the speech community of Tlemcen. It collects data using a semi-structured interview, targeting a random sample population of 50 informants, varying in age, gender, and educational background. The paper analyses the data qualitatively to identify a list of proverbs commonly used in Tlemcen and to draw conclusions about their significance and use within the community. The objective of the investigation is to collect a corpus of commonly used proverbs, explore their meanings and usage, and classify them into different themes they convey.
