Does The Agricultural Sector Promote Food Security In Algeria? An Empirical Investigation Using A Non-parametric Approach Of Bootstrap Quantile Regression

Abstract
Abstract : This study aims to empirically explore the impact of the agricultural sector on food security in Algeria over the period 1992-2021. Using a non-parametric approach, it employs quantile regression combined with the bootstrap resampling technique. The research focuses on key agricultural indicators, including value-added agriculture (AGR), agricultural land area (LAND), and employment in the agriculture sector (EMAG) as the primary explanatory variables. The Food Production Index (FPI) is used to measure food security. To ensure a robust analysis, macroeconomic variables such as gross domestic product (GDP) and trade openness (TRA) are included as control factors, given their potential influence on food security in Algeria. The findings reveal that the agricultural sector significantly contributes to food security, primarily through increases in value-added agriculture and land dedicated to farming. These results offer valuable insights for policymakers and the government, supporting the development of sustainable food security strategies in Algeria. ملخص : يهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة تأثير القطاع الزراعي على الأمن الغذائي في الجزائر خلال الفترة 1992-2021.إذ يطبق طريقة لا معلمية باستخدام الانحدار الكمي مع تقنية المعاينة بالوتستراب ، وذلك من خلال اعتماد كل من الزراعة ذات القيمة المضافة (AGR)، ومساحة الأرض المخصصة للزراعة (LAND)، والتوظيف في قطاع الزراعة (EMAG) كعوامل تفسيرية رئيسية. حيث يعتبر مؤشر الإنتاج الغذائي (FPI) المحدد الرئيسي للأمن الغذائي في الجزائر. للتحكم في الدراسة القياسية، تم استخدام عوامل الاقتصاد الكلي الأخرى مثل الناتج المحلي الإجمالي والانفتاح التجاري بسبب التأثير المحتمل على الأمن الغذائي في الجزائر. تظهر النتائج أن القطاع الزراعي هو معزز حقيقي للأمن الغذائي في الجزائر من خلال عامل القيمة المضافة الزراعية (AGR)، ومساحة الأراضي المخصصة للزراعة (LAND). إن نتائج هذا البحث توفر الدعم العلمي لاستراتيجيات الأمن الغذائي المستدام للحكومة وواضعي السياسات في الجزائر.
