Western societies have witnessed a remarkable increase in the phenomena of discrimination and hate speech, which transcended the borders of Western countries and moved to Arab societies. The Algerian society was not far from these criminal phenomena, but rather witnessed a clear increase, especially during the popular “Hirak” movement in February 2019. Given the seriousness of discrimination and hate speech crimes, the Algerian legislator took immediate measures by issuing Law No. 20-05 that is concerned with preventing and combating them. This law aims to deter and penalize all individuals who commit such crimes. Effective mechanisms have been put in place to combat these criminal acts, which would deeply incite discrimination and hate speech within society.
